"I’d leave my house every day around 10 minutes to four, quarter to four, to go to the rink. My wife Cristina, was usually at work. But as I was walking out the gate, she just pulled up. She came home early to see me go. Immediately, when I saw her - and I’m a lot like my mom, I hold my emotions in - as soon as I saw her, I started to cry. She knew what that was all about. As I was driving to the rink, I knew it was my last time. I was flooded with memories and emotions, thinking, ‘This is my last game.’ I’m sitting there in my suit, driving to the rink, stopped at a light and I’m crying. Some guy was looking at me through the window, like, ‘What’s wrong with you?’"

"He’d be the first guy running in there to protect anybody, from your best player to his linemate. He was one of the toughest players to ever play the game, and a great teammate."
